NBA Playoffs Prove that We Need Freedom Slamma Jamma (TM)!!

ACTOR-1
Set the basketball players free! Economics, mathematics, and analytics all agree that we can easily improve the multi-billion dollar, worldwide, industry, of basketball. Economically, we have an oversupply of great basketball players that can dunk it backwards.

ACTOR-2
Yes! Entrepreneurs, businessmen, and businesswomen, who can think outside the box, will see a worldwide scalable opportunity.

ACTOR-1
Mathematically, basketball players need more space to fly.

ACTOR-2
Play 4-on-4 full court! Such a new league could become a massive entertainment platform with a startup reality TV show, an ongoing reality TV show, and a scripted TV show, with the new basketball league having streaming games, games on television, tournaments on television, a social media partner for instantaneous highlights, super fan engagement as courtside reporters, and much better revenue streams, because of being a much faster and more thrilling product. Every commercial could come with a fantastic highlight, because there would be too many to count!

ACTOR-1
The Boston Celtics lost big in Game-1 of the NBA playoffs against the Milwaukee bucks, despite shooting 50 three-pointers. What do you think of that?

ACTOR-2
Bob Ryan said, "Do you know that they had fewer 2-point-field goals in that game than any playoff game in their history dating back to 1951."

He said this on "Around the Horn," on ESPN just the other day, on Tuesday May 3rd, 2022.

ACTOR-1
Isn't it ridiculous that the Milwaukee Bucks won 101- 89 over the Boston Celtics in Game One of their series, this past Sunday May 1st 2022?

Analytics say that game was boring, and it was boring. Ironically, it was the best running and jumping athletes in the world going from three-point line to three-point line, sometimes stepping backwards, which truly is ridiculous if you stop and think about it. All this walking instead of full-court fast break running all the time.

ACTOR-2
Sigh! Freewheeling basketball by the greatest athletes in the world is dead.

ACTOR-1
Imagine, yes think outside the box, how much better a game would be when the unbelievably talented players had 80 square more feet to maneuver towards the basket.

ACTOR-2
Yes, I've done the math. I've done the analytics. NBA players with their tall wingspans of approximately 7 ft create a circular zone of defense basically equivalent to the area of a circle 7 ft in diameter. The offensive player, similarly, takes up the same amount of space on the court. If you remove two players, you are opening up 2 x 38.48 feet of space, which equals 77 square feet, which rounds up to 80 square ft, easily, because they are moving around not just standing still.

Imagine if Ja Morant, LeBron James, Steph Curry, Klay thompson, Russell Westbrook, or Kevin Durant, had 80 square feet more space to attack the basket! They would be highlight machines!

ACTOR-1
Every player today is a point guard they can all handle the ball so well. So, set the players free. Let them run and gun.

Today's highlights should all be about dunks, alley oops, and blocking the ball off the backboards, not stepping backwards to shoot a three-pointer. Many of my friends, and I, only watch the last 3 minutes of the 48-minute games, and only if close, and if we watch the entire game we're busy on our cell phones 50% of the time minimum, because most of the routine plays are not engaging. They are totally NOT stimulating or intoxicating.

ACTOR-1
The Boston Celtics came back to win Game-2 with the score of 109 - 86 in their favor this past Tuesday, May 3rd 2022. This is also laughable, because with Freedom Slamma Jamma(TM), the scores would be up near 150 points for each team every game, just like they used to be in the old days when the world's most exciting player, Dr. J, also known as Julius Irving, played in the ABA. and there would be many more dunks and alley oops and great highlights. There is no better basketball than fast-break, basket-to-basket, full-court run and gun basketball.

Analytics say we can have this exhilarating basketball again simply by playing 4x4 full court. This new basketball league could literally be started for next to nothing with great programmers, basketball players willing to play for free on the weekends, and by renting out high school and college gyms all over the USA for the games. The fans could be the camera operators with cell phones, the fans could be the ones shooting the shots in conjunction with a social media platform, or a streaming video company. Good programming could do all the scheduling, and make all the games reliable, and insure that all the best run and gun Superstars played. It would be like the McDonald's App, but for basketball. There has never been greater demand for entertainment content in the history of the world!

ACTOR-1
When you watch the rest of the NBA games, the Philadelphia 76ers against the Miami heat, the Dallas Mavericks against the Phoenix Suns, and then the NBA finals think about how low scoring the games are, and how few and far between fast breaks are in today's game. Every time a 3-pointer clunks, think about how much more exciting it would be to switch to 4x4 full court.

ACTOR-2
Yes! Basketball needs to quit boring me out of my mind. I'm tired of all the walking from three point line to three point line. Set the players free! Do the Freedom Slamma Jamma (TM).

Why Not Compete with the NBA?

ACTOR 1
Why don't entrepreneurs try to compete with the NBA by creating a better product? Why not create a new basketball league with better highlights? I want more dunks, more fast breaks, and more great passes. Investors and entrepreneurs have tried to compete with the NFL, with one major success, so why not the NBA.

ACTOR 2
Don't forget about the football AFL–NFL merger, the Arena Football League (AFL), the Alliance of American Football (AAF), the World Football League (WFL), the United Football League (UFL) and so on! Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson has been talking about the return of the XFL. Where are the basketball competitors?

ACTOR 1
Basketball and football are billion-dollar businesses. But basketball is worldwide and far easier to do. The first step is to create a 4-on-4 full court basketball league, because it would become non-stop fast break basketball. There has never been a better time to combine basketball, social media, and fan participation. Every fan who wanted to, could become a viral video creator.

ACTOR 2
It would be far easier to produce a better basketball product by playing 4-on-4 full court basketball, because of the increase in awesome highlights that would naturally occur. Mathematically, it would make sense to run basket to basket, instead of walk from three-point line to three-point line.

ACTOR 1
I am sick of today’s game. The greatest athletes in the world are walking around all the time, they are tracing the three-point line, sometimes they are even backing up, instead of running and gunning. Let's fast break again!

Basketball - Billion Bollar Business - Competition & Innovation

Basketball is a billion dollar industry. Mathematics and #analytics tell us that we can take this monopoly down with a better product by playing 4-on-4 full court, and that we can return to non-stop #running and #gunning, Dr. J style ABA basketball, Lakers "Showtime" style basketball, and Houston Cougars' Phi Slama Jama(R) [their trademark] basketball.

We have an excess supply of basketball players today that can dunk, that can handle the basketball like a point guard, and can block the basketball against the backboard.

All we have to do is make the game more wide open to have great highlights on every single play. Have you ever wondered where have all the great passes gone? Why so few alley oops?

No more walking from three-point line to three-point line. We need a new marriage between a social network, a video on demand streaming service, entrepreneurs, and innovators.

I put this on Twitter and Twitter warned me that "tweets like this can be 'intense.'" Why is that? I don't usually do four part tweets, but otherwise I don't see why it was "intense." Perhaps my writing is outstanding? Full of emotion?

I love #basketball!
I love fast break 🏀
I love run and gun all the way to the rim 🏀

Let's bring back fast break basketball! Let's bring back running and gunning basketball!

NBA Basketball can be Fixed!

CHARACTER ONE
Watching today's NBA basketball is a thousand times less interesting than it should be. Today's NBA is like watching a game of H-O-R-S-E. There are a bunch of long 3-point shots taken. But the fast break basketball game has mostly disappeared in favor of pulling up for long shots.

CHARACTER 2
I want to see the greatest players running and gunning instead of all this slowpoke stuff. The games were far more interesting in high school because all we did was run and gun.

CHARACTER ONE
I want to see Ja Morant, Russell Westbrook, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Kevin Durant on one team.

CHARACTER 2
That's exactly what we need to do! Play four-on-four full court, because mathematically it would pay off to run and gun again. And, I would put those four great players as a four-player team up against anyone!

CHARACTER ONE
How about the other team's four players being Trae Young, Kawhi Leonard, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry?

CHARACTER 2
Those would be two unbelievably talented teams playing four-on-four full court against each other! I love it.

CHARACTER ONE
Mathematically it has to happen. We can't keep playing this slow old man's basketball. Entrepreneurs and investors can start a brand new TV series, a new basketball league, reality TV, and scripted TV, all about playing high-speed, full court, run and gun basketball again. We have an oversupply of great basketball players today that can play full court. They can all handle the ball like guards. Every player has handles. We have an oversupply of social media companies that need sports highlights. We have an oversupply of cable stations that need sports highlights. We have streaming media that needs sports.

CHARACTER 2
People have to think outside of the box. They have to adapt and change. Four-on-four full court, three-on-three full court, two-on-two full court, and one-on-one full court are the future of basketball.

CHARACTER ONE
I love how we're doing this. I love how one person is copyright protecting his material by blogging about it while at the same time getting the entire world to see it. There's no better investment than sports, because they are entertainment. Sports are fun and basketball is worldwide. TV shows, games, and leagues could all be done very cheaply using today's technology, programming, and all the other tools we have.

CHARACTER 2
You could practically do the entire thing with weekend basketball players because there is such a huge oversupply of great basketball players. And, with today's software on cell phones everything could be scheduled, and it would always be easy to make sure the four-on-four games took place. Then, the fans could film everything with their cell phones and create tomorrow's basketball celebrities by putting all the highlights, the dunks, and the magical passes on social media, cable stations, or streaming media. Everything would be like a rave!

CHARACTER ONE
For the cost of one professional NBA basketball player, the entire NBA could probably be taken down with a better, faster, product.

CHARACTER 2
Actually, it could cost far less than that because the whole thing could practically done for free because so many people love to play basketball.

CHARACTER ONE
Showtime baby. Let's run and gun again. Let's get back to Phi Slama Jama(R), like the University of Houston once had with Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon. You never got bored watching those games, because you loved the fast breaks.

Hating March Madness! Why College Basketball is Boring!

CHARACTER ONE
There's a lot to hate about March Madness and college basketball this year, like the low scoring games, and the slow-poke games. Mathematics and analytics have nothing good to say about college basketball!

CHARACTER TWO
What are you talking about?

CHARACTER ONE
Today's basketball players basically start playing from birth. They can all handle the ball! Even the tall, giant, basketball players can handle the ball like point guards. It's not like the old days where the tall players were told to stand there and catch and shoot. Now all the players have handles like Allen Iverson. Today's basketball players are all doing ball handling drills from the very beginning of their playing days. All the players today can dribble full court, full speed, and full blast.

CHARACTER TWO
So what's the problem? Why are you hating on my favorite sport, basketball?

CHARACTER ONE
Well I'm watching all these NCAA tournament games. I'm watching both the women's games and the men's games during March Madness, and you know what I'm not seeing?

CHARACTER TWO
What's missing? Why do the games suck so bad? And I feel you. There is something wrong. I haven't been thrilled except during like the last 2 minutes of every game.

CHARACTER ONE
Despite having the world's greatest athletes playing basketball today, they are playing the slowest game possible. They are standing around outside and they are playing zone defense all the time. None of this should be happening with today's tallest, greatest, ball handlers ever!

CHARACTER TWO
What should be happening?

CHARACTER ONE
What should be happening is ridiculously obvious if you understand mathematics and analytics. Basketball should be full court running and gunning all the time! It should be Houston's Phi Slama Jama (R) and Showtime all the time! Basketball should be fast breaking, beautiful passes, and dunking all the time. Think outside the box! There should be fast breaks every minute and alley oops every other minute.

CHARACTER TWO
What I see is a lot of walking from three point line to three point line. Then, I see a lot of standing around the three-point line. Then, I see a lot of passing around the three-point line.

CHARACTER ONE
Yeah, and it's boring! What you see is a lot of playing backwards. Instead of players fast breaking towards the basket all the time, there's a lot of stepping backwards to get behind the three-point line and a lot of passing backwards to get behind the three-point line. You can even watch a fast break that's four on one and the players will pull up and shoot the three instead of driving to the basket. The fast break has been replaced by the slow grinding of the three-point shot.

CHARACTER TWO
So how do we fix it? How do we get back to fast break basketball? How do we get back to run and gun basketball? How do we get back to the days of the ABA and Dr Julius Irving? How do we get back to freewheeling, fast break, basketball, which was the most exciting style of basketball ever, because play after play, it was running full court all the time?

CHARACTER ONE
Fixing basketball is so simple it's ridiculous. It's amazing entrepreneurs haven't even thought of it yet. There is a billion dollar basketball industry totally ripe for disruption. And it's all simple mathematics.

CHARACTER TWO
Come on man what is it?

CHARACTER ONE
It's simple. Start by playing 4-on-4 full court. Just imagine if Michael Jordan, LeBron James, the late great Kobe Bryant, and The Greek Freak had more room on the court to run and gun. Most NBA players are 6 ft 6 in or taller. Removing one of them is like creating 33 square ft of empty space. Removing two of them, one player from each team, is like creating 66 square feet of more empty space to play in. Just going from playing five-on-five to playing four-on-four means the offensive players wouldn't be able to be stopped by a wall of five players anymore. With only four players on each team the court would be much more wide open. Mathematically, it would pay to run and gun all the time. The same for three-on-three full court, two-on-two full court, and one-on-one full court.

CHARACTER TWO
I'm with you. I'm tired of these low scoring games, but I'm a businessman, how do you make money?

CHARACTER ONE
That's the best part! The billion dollar NBA Monopoly and the millions of dollars NCAA monopoly could both be broken overnight! All you need to do is some reality TV shows, start playing some games, and start forming some leagues. Everything is in place; it's just time for some entrepreneurs to step forward and some players to step forward and take over basketball again, and taking advantage of the opportunities and the social media and the fans who want to see fast break basketball with dunks, and alley oops, and spectacular passes. Set the players free!

CHARACTER TWO
I think I can see it; I can start thinking outside of the box! I can imagine how it could all happen. You create a faster game, a more thrilling game, a more fun game, and a much more watchable game.

CHARACTER ONE
Yes absolutely! And it's all driven by today's better basketball players, today's bigger basketball players, and today's better technology with the Internet, smart phones, streaming, and social media. It would be a sea change in sports. It would disrupt sports worldwide, and it could be done practically overnight using software, technology, and mathematics. And it could be driven by the players and the fans.

CHARACTER TWO
I can't wait! I can't wait to see run and gun basketball again. I can't wait to see fast break basketball again. I can't wait for basketball to always be moving forward again instead of backwards.

CHARACTER ONE
Yes, let's end the dark ages of basketball and start running and gunning again.

Copyright (c) 2021 BradMD (Brad Hennenfent, M.D.) This is an ongoing treatment and script for four-on-four full-court basketball, three-on-three full-court basketball two-on-two full-court basketball, and one-on-one full-court basketball, for TV, reality TV, streaming, digital entertainment, games, tournaments, leagues, and every other mode or medium of entertainment and sports.

Replace the NBA!

I cannot believe how bad NBA basketball is today compared to what it could be. Watching the NBA finals is watching great athletes stand in a half-circle around the three-point line too much of the time.

It's young guys playing old man's basketball. There are literally 10 players standing around the arc so often, that if you drank a beer every time all 10 players were standing next to the three-point line during an NBA game, you would get drunk! Mathematics says we can fix this!

CHARACTER
I grew up loving basketball because it was so exciting. When I watched high school basketball in the 1970s it was non-stop running and gunning full court all the time! I saw a high school team score over 100 points a game twice, and there was no three-point line back then! When I got old enough to play, all we did was fast break! Today, it seems like it's full-time walking and stepping backwards behind the three-point line. The most coveted players are the ones who can step backwards the best. There is no non-stop forward motion!

CHARACTER 2
I grew up loving the ABA! Dr. J was running full court and slamming it down in unbelievable fashion all the time!

We once had Houston's Phi Slama Jama(R)! Remember when Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwan came along in college and played full court all the time? It was non-stop running and dunking! That was thrilling basketball. That was rocking and rolling basketball. It was a dunkathon.

CHARACTER
How can you make a high-speed game slow? By stepping backwards all the time.

CHARACTER 2
The mathematics of today's NBA game are all screwed up. Instead of running and gunning, and fast breaking, and being exciting, it's better to step backwards behind the three-point line.

Let's say you shoot a hundred shots in a game. If you shoot all three-pointers and you make 40% of them you have scored 120 points. If you shoot all two-pointers and you make 50% of them you have only made a 100 points. Mathematically it's much better to shoot three pointers!

CHARACTER
We can fix this! We can start by playing 4-on-4 full court. We can start with a TV show about starting 4-on-4 games. This would be great for upstart sports organizations like Outkick or Barstool Sports, or for new social networks that need sports highlights. The fans can post the highlights! The fans can be the camera operators using smartphones!

Entrepreneurs need to step up. Why are we watching boring basketball? Set the players free with room to play! Uncage players like LeBron James to run and gun. Set them free. There are far too many great basketball players today without enough wide open games for them to play in. Run and dunk!

Cancel the NBA! Please!

CHARACTER ONE
NBA please cancel yourself! I don't believe in cancel culture or censorship, but if you want to do it to yourself please do! I love basketball and I can't wait for the NBA to be canceled. Why? Because of mathematics! Because I hate the way the NBA plays basketball. All they do is walk from three-point line to three-point line. Boring! It's old-timer basketball at the YMCA.

When I played basketball, we fast-breaked all the time! We were always running and gunning, going from rim to rim! It was true full court basketball. Showtime was the dream.

Remember the legends of run and gun basketball? Dr. J? Showtime with Magic Johnson? James Worthy? That was great basketball. Remember Pistol Pete Maravich on the fast break? Or John Havlicek. That was unbelievable. Even Charles Barkley, the round mound of rebound, was more fun to watch when he was on the fast break than anything I see today. That Barkley truck could move!

Today's NBA is slow and boring like an old timer's league. We need to play 4-on-4 full court because of mathematics.

The math says if you take two 7-footers off the court you'll have a lot more room for running and gunning. You will have more dunks, alley-oops, and highlights than ever before! You will be freeing up about 100 ft² of space!

SPEAKER TWO
I agree with you! And from a business standpoint, the NBA Monopoly is ripe for being taken down. It's time to do it!

It could all start with a reality TV show about a startup that wants to start games and leagues playing four-on-four full court. Or as I have noted before three-on-three, two-on-two, or one-on-one! And those could be played with Covid-19 recovered players.

Why are we still playing today's stupid slow game?

We have everything we need today to start a brand new league to compete and drive out the NBA. We have social media. We have sports fans everywhere with cell phone cameras who can video the highlights! We have everything! We also have a better product. We have run and gun basketball!

College Basketball Players will Play!

ANNOUNCER
College basketball players have refused to be put on the bench! They are forming their own basketball leagues. They are using social media to replace the monopolistic sports networks.

ANALYST
I think it's a great idea! What they are doing is playing 1-on-1 full court, 2-on-2 full court, 3-on-3, or 4-on-4 full court, whatever it takes to be safe in this day and age of COVID-19.

PHYSICIAN/ACTOR
Two guys, both who have already had covid-19 and have recovered, can play full court and can run and gun non-stop! There can be excellent social distancing in a gymnasium. The reporters can be citizen reporters sitting far away in the stands and using the zoom lens on their cell phones! The highlights can be sent all over social media!

ENTREPRENEUR
We miss basketball! We love basketball! We have all these new streaming media channels, we even have two great names, Huge Channel and Jumbo Channel, that will remind people of the History Channel or the Hallmark Channel because of the similar style of naming.

The point is we love sports, we miss sports, we have hundreds of new channels that need sports, and now we have college basketball players banned from playing basketball! We are going to turn them into entrepreneurs, starting their own games, having their own tournaments, creating their own leagues! Getting paid!

PHYSICIAN /ACTOR
Do you realize how many NBA players have already had COVID-19 and have recovered? There are plenty of players on the NBA level, the college level, and even the high school level who can play because they have had the virus and have recovered. Or who can play because they are so incredibly low risk.

ANALYST
We need basketball! And we need this new style of basketball with fewer players on the court and more dunks, fast breaks, alley oops, and just plain more highlights in general! We are all tired of seeing players walk from the three-point line to the three-point line. Let's bring back fast break basketball! Let's run and gun!

Showtime! Dunks and Alley Oops!

Businessmen, businesswomen, investors, filmmakers, movie makers, producers, and directors, need to get together and create a new basketball league (and TV show).

The NBA Monopoly can be taken down because of its bad quality basketball. They mostly just walk from three-point line to three-point line. Boring!

In fact, one person could organize the whole thing. The concept will be playing 4-on-4 full court basketball to create the space for the run and gun style of basketball that we all love.

Mathematics says that playing 4-on-4 full court will result in more dunks, fast breaks, and alley oops!

It could all start with a reality TV show following the the one person getting it organized and started. Imagine all the meetings with players, fans, and investors. Imagine the drama of a startup!

When the games are played, the fan base can use their own smartphones and social media to publish all the highlights.

In fact, getting social media involved would be perfect.

A great additional bonus is that it would be easy to work around the coronavirus epidemic. You could literally start with 1-on-1 full court, if you had to, with recovered basketball players. Then, you could move on to 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 and finally 4-on-4. It's all about the highlights!

Economics says there are too many great basketball players and not enough teams where they can play the run and gun, showtime style of basketball!

Millionaire NBA players Super Agents and Investors

CHARACTER ONE
NBA basketball players, agents, and investors are thinking too small! They should be thinking about owning their own basketball league. Not just playing for the NBA.

CHARACTER TWO
What do you mean? What could be better than the NBA?

CHARACTER ONE
Just look at all the organizations that have taken on the NFL. Remember the XFL, the USFL, the AAF, and the WFL? They all tried to take on the NFL. But the NBA is much weaker. The NBA would be a far easier monopoly to break!

CHARACTER TWO
How would you even get started?

CHARACTER ONE
Just think of all the basketball courts sitting empty around the world. Basketball is a worldwide sport. In the USA alone every weekend there are empty basketball courts at junior high schools and high schools all over America. It would be super easy to take on the NBA by playing four-on-four full court, or three-on-three full court, because there would be far more fast breaks, dunks, and entertainment!

CHARACTER TWO
Why would you even do that?

CHARACTER ONE
Because we have an excess supply of great basketball players! And we have a terrible game today. Five-on-five basketball is boring because there's no more constant running gunning, no showtime basketball, like the fans really love. All they do is basically go from three-point line to three-point line.

CHARACTER TWO
What's the problem again?

CHARACTER ONE
Basketball is boring! The players used to be 6 ft tall. Each player took up 6 * 6 * 6 = 216 ft³ of space. Now the players are more like 7 ft tall. That's 7 * 7 * 7 = 343 ft³ of space. The players take up so much room the players can't fast break like they used to! It's mathematics! The math says we need to decrease the number of players on the floor.

CHARACTER TWO
But what about all the other stuff?

CHARACTER ONE
We have all the tools to fix everything today! We have computer programming. We have smartphones! Every single person who goes to the games can be the press! They can be the ones to film all the highlights using their cell phones, and they can be the ones to publish all the highlights on social media! It all can be done in a super inexpensive fashion.

CHARACTER TWO
As an investor, and entrepreneur, and a computer programmer, I see tons of potential in what you're talking about!

CHARACTER ONE
Yes, all you got to do is get one retired NBA superstar who still loves to run and gun, and you could start a four-on-four full court league, or a three-on-three full court league! It would take minimal investment compared to trying to take on the NFL.

CHARACTER TWO
And the players could be the owners! There could be stock options. There could be ownership potential for players.

CHARACTER ONE
Yes, there is very little standing in the way of taking on the NBA with a brand new league, perhaps starting first with reality TV show about starting up the new league, and about negotiating everything to get the new league going. There is incredible opportunity here. imagine going around the country recruiting fantastic basketball players not quite good enough for the NBA, but unbelievably great dunkers, passers, and runners.

CHARACTER TWO
I love it! I'm going to talk to every filmmaker, movie maker, basketball player, investor, angel investor, venture capitalist, and entrepreneur that I know.

Coronavirus Charity Basketball Game! Beat COVID-19!

CHARACTER ONE
What would you do if you were a basketball player, tested positive for the coronavirus, and then recovered?

CHARACTER TWO
I'd play basketball!

CHARACTER ONE
Exactly! I'd hoop! I'd find another player that has recovered and play one-on-one full court! That way there would be lots of highlights, running and gunning and slam dunks!

CHARACTER TWO
I'd pay to see that!

CHARACTER ONE
We could do it safely! We'd have two players who we know are immune to COVID-19. Ideally, we would have a staff that were immune to COVID-19 as well! We could use the fewest possible number of people.

Just think of all the NBA players that are recovering from COVID-19.

Reportedly, there's Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell, there are three or four Brooklyn Nets teammates. Reportedly there is also Christian Wood. Soon there will be two or more players that have completely recovered and are immune, so they could play!

There could be 1-on-1 full court, 2-on-2 full court, 3-on-3 full court, and 4-on-4 full court. These games with fewer players could start almost immediately! It won't be long until many players have fully recovered!

CHARACTER TWO
I need these games! They can be pay per view! Whatever it takes. I need basketball! And reruns of old basketball games are horrible! I want live basketball!

CHARACTER ONE
Exactly, this is an opportunity for players, entrepreneurs, and new ideas! The mathematics of basketball say that we need fewer players on the court so we can speed up the game, and we can get fast break basketball again! This is the perfect opportunity to put these ideas in motion.

Coronavirus is an Opportunity for NBA Basketball Players

CHARACTER ONE

Coronavirusis an opportunity for NBA players to become billionaires by playing 4-on-4 full court, 3-on-3 full court, 2-on-2 full court, and 1-on-1 full court.

CHARACTER TWO

Yes! I know what you mean! We, basketball fans, are starving for basketball! This is absolutely the worst time in the world to cancel basketball. We fans were looking forward to March Madness and the NBA playoffs!

CHARACTER ONE

Absolutely! I was working my way into maximum anticipation! I always get jacked up this time of year for basketball. And now it's gone.

But you know what? There will be people who are not afraid to play basketball. There are people who could go from quarantine to the gym and back. And by playing 4-on-4 full court, 3-on-3 full court, 2-on-2 full court, and 1-on-1 full court, it would greatly reduce the risk of the coronavirus. The fewer the number of people playing and the fewer the number of people in the stands the less the risk for the spread of the virus. It would only take a few people with cell phones to video the games! And the games with highlights could be placed on social media. Essentially an entire TV show could be built, scripted or unscripted, even including a reality TV show, around these ideas!

Games could be played. League tournaments could be done, leagues could be created, and so on and so forth. The fewest number of people possible could be involved and yet there could be fantastic basketball highlights! With fewer players on the court there will be much more running and gunning, fast breaks, and dunks!

CHARACTER TWO

All kinds of safety measures could be put in place! Everybody could be tested, everything could be disinfected, and so on and so forth. One, two, three, or four people could run the whole thing!

CHARACTER ONE

I'd be happy to see two players playing one-on-one full court! You could then have one or two cameramen with cell phones at each end of the court! That would be the near minimum possible!

CHARACTER TWO

Imagine the unbelievable highlights of fast break basketball!

Basketball Players becoming Billionaires

CHARACTER ONE
Basketball players can become billionaires. All they have to do is wake up to business and entrepreneurship.

CHARACTER TWO
How do they do that?

CHARACTER ONE
Mathematics says basketball is ripe for innovation! Ripe for disruption! Look at the history of basketball. What's most popular worldwide about basketball? I'll answer my own question. It's the running and gunning, it's Showtime, it's Phi Slamma Jamma, it's the dunks! It's the slam dunks at the end of incredible passes while on the run. When I was younger everybody went to see fast break basketball on the high school level.

CHARACTER TWO
But how do we get from here to there?

CHARACTER ONE
Everything's been laid out to disrupt  basketball! All you have to do is study the history of the ABA and now look at the XFL! Look at what came before the XFL, there was the AAF (Alliance of American Football).

CHARACTER TWO
Yes and there was also the UFL, the CFL, the USFL, and now the XFL.

CHARACTER ONE
Some of those leagues have been and still are successful. Remember that Jim Kelly, Herschel Walker, Doug Flutie and Steve Young, all played for the USFL - if I remember correctly.

CHARACTER TWO
And don't forget the American Football League! It competed with the NFL until the NFL merged with the American Football League. Remember that Larry Csonka was a famous football player that was the number one pick for the American Football League's Miami Dolphins! Then his team once went undefeated after the merger with the NFL. That was the only undefeated perfect season in the NFL! Or to be more clear, after three seasons in the NFL, the Miami Dolphins were the only team to have a perfect season and then win the Super Bowl.

CHARACTER ONE
The bottom line is that if you study history and understand business, and understand how to do a startup, you can compete with the NBA! And if you do it right you can be wildly successful! That's because the situation is far better for another professional basketball league to compete with the NBA than it is for a competitor to the NFL.

CHARACTER TWO
How so? What do you mean?

CHARACTER ONE
Basketball has all the advantages! Basketball is a worldwide sport and it requires far less equipment! Worldwide, basketball is far more popular than American football. There has never been a better time in the history of the world to do a startup, create a new basketball league, or create new television programs, and videos, to take on the NBA!

CHARACTER ONE
How would you do it?

CHARACTER TWO
It's simple, follow the math! Follow the history of what has been successful before. First, get as many celebrity athletes as investors as possible. These celebrity athletes already have huge fan bases on Twitter, Instagram, and other social media outlets. Organize all the influencers possible who love fast break basketball! Celebrity athletes can be the first players!

CHARACTER TWO
But you said follow the math...

CHARACTER ONE
Exactly! The game of basketball has been slowed down by the three-point line. Follow basketball analytics! All you have to do to change the mathematics of basketball is start playing four-on-four full-court, three-on-three full-court, two-on-two full-court, and even one-on-one full-court.

CHARACTER TWO
You mean change the game slightly so all the magnificent athletes aren't simply running three-point line to three-point line. You mean change the game so stepping backwards behind the three-point line isn't the most important part of the game.

CHARACTER ONE
Exactly! You have described it in a nutshell. Instead of playing full court run and gun basketball, today's players are actually incentivized to move backwards. Thus we don't have nearly the number of fast breaks, unbelievable passes, and running slam dunks that we should have.

CHARACTER TWO
I get it! I get what you are saying. It is the perfect time in history to begin new reality TV shows, scripted TV shows, new basketball leagues, new games and tournaments, all built around playing basketball with fewer than five players.

CHARACTER ONE
That's right! It's all about the math. As basketball players have gotten bigger and bigger, the courts have gotten smaller and smaller. There's less room to run and gun. But it can all be fixed very simply, without cost, by simply moving down to four-on-four, then three-on-three, then two-on-two, then one-on-one!

CHARACTER TWO
Yes I get it! The overhead is incredibly small and the market is incredibly huge! Plus, it can be done today because all basketball players today have excellent ball handling skills, not like in the old days when only the guards could dribble full court.

CHARACTER ONE
Yes, if done right such a startup would make money from the get-go. I see what you mean by the players need to wake up, some of these organizations need to wake up, perhaps things like CloseUp360, PlayersTV, and all players like ex-NBA players, ex-college players, ex-high school players, and all the social networks, especially the new ones that are competing with Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, could wake up and turn basketball fans into sports reporters and journalists overnight! The old NBA and the old social networks could be taken down at the same time with competition!

CHARACTER TWO
Yes, that's it. That's how basketball players become billionaires.

Why the NBA Sucks!

CHARACTER 1
NBA basketball bores me to tears. We have the world's best athletes, all who can handle the ball, dunk, and alley-oop, but their most important skill is being able to step backwards. Boring!

CHARACTER 2
I know exactly what you mean! I used to love Phi Slama Jama(TM) basketball. I used to love Showtime! Now all basketball players do is go from 3-point line to 3-point line and if they accidentally go too far they step backwards! It's so different now, because in the past we used to run and gun full court, basket to basket.

CHARACTER 1
Imagine if the game were actually played to take advantage of the skillsets of today's professional basketball players!

CHARACTER 2
Yes! The NBA Monopoly could be busted. Why do investors and entrepreneurs keep trying to compete with the NFL? The NFL is basically only an American game. Basketball is worldwide. By playing four-on-four full court a new league could destroy the NBA! It would be easy to do. All you would have to do is combine basketball players with business men or women. A single social media network could make the entire 4-on-4 league take off. There would be far better highlights. Many more dunks! Many more fantastic run and gun plays. Many more fast breaks!

CHARACTER 2
This is a continuing script - screenplay - treatment, for scripted and unscripted videos regarding playing four-on-four full court basketball! Or having reality TV shows. That's right! It would be much better to play 4-on-4 full court! Fans love full court basketball! The fans love running and gunning. Players love playing fast-break basketball. There is an excess supply of fantastic basketball players! There is an NBA Monopoly ready to be broken!

By the way, Phi Slama Jama(TM) is a registered trademark of the University of Houston. Go Cougars!

4-on-4 Full Court Basketball

Mathematically, 4-on-4 full court basketball is superior to 5-on-5 full court, because the run and gun game returns! Fast break basketball would come back! There would be more great passes, dunks, and alley-oops. Blocking the ball on the bank board! Everything the fans loved about fast break Showtime basketball would come back.

4-on-4 full court basketball would also probably make Mark Cuban lose a billion dollars. The NBA is a Monopoly right now owned by mostly white owners, who are often millionaires and billionaires.

When you bust a monopoly with a better product, the old product loses out big. And the owners of that product lose big. It's a lesson of economics. Somehow, I don't think they will starve to death though.

All that needs to happen is that a bunch of basketball players need to get together with their money and their skills and start playing 4-on-4 full court. They need to create better highlights, better television content, television shows, tournaments, and at least one new league.

The television shows can be reality TV shows that focus on their personal lives, as well as TV shows all about playing the games. Personally, I think a reality show should start on day one and should follow the entire process of a basketball entrepreneur starting the process of making 4-on-4 full court basketball happen. This person, male or female, can be followed from the concept to the execution of a billion dollar business.

Imagine, doing all the interviews with basketball players all over the world with professional basketball skills that don't even get to play today. There are not enough jobs for all the players who can play today.

Let's fix things. Let's let the players play!

Mathematically, 4-on-4 is Better!

HOST

In basketball, basically 50% of 2-point shots are made and 40% of 3-pointers are made.

ANALYST

So, 50% of 2-pointers are made, take 100 shots, make 50, that equals 100 points.

Take 100 3-pointers, make 40%, 40 baskets equals 120 points! That's why all they ever do in the NBA anymore is shoot three-pointers.

HOST

Mathematically, 4-on-4 full Court is better than 5-on-5 full court for fast breaks dunks and alley-oops.

ANALYST

Yes, basketball can be made fantastic again by making it run and gun again. Play 4-on-4!

This is an ongoing script and treatment for how to fix basketball!

Why do Great Basketball Players Ride the Bench?

HOST
Let me speak directly to the current NBA players riding the bench. Why are you sitting on the bench? You are an incredible basketball player! You have unbelievable skills. You've got handles, you can run, jump, dunk, you can fly down the court. You are big, tall, and fast. Yet, you're sitting on the bench!

ANALYST
I understand your outrage. We have an over-supply of great basketball players and an under-supply of games for them to play in.

HOST
How do we fix things?

ANALYST
We do two things. First, we start playing 4-on-4 full court, because this will bring back fast-break basketball, which is the style of basketball that's the most fun to play, and has the most highlights! Four-on-4 full court is also the most fun basketball to watch. Remember Phi Slama Jama™ and Clyde Drexler? Remember Magic Johnson on the fast break? That's the kind of basketball that gives you chills. Today, basketball players stand around a lot, they walk a lot, and they pass around the perimeter a lot.

Second, we combine modern media with basketball! We could start with a reality TV show starring basketball players becoming entrepreneurs. We drive home the point that mathematics says 4-on-4 beats 5-on-5 every day of the week and twice on Sundays!

You could take eight great multi-millionaire basketball players that are currently riding the bench and turn them into an entire new basketball league playing a better style of basketball!

COMMENTATOR
Why not just get eight guys that are about to retire from the NBA, and have them start-up new TV shows and 4-on-4 full court games? There are also all kinds of angel investors and venture capitalists out there. Who wouldn't want to invest in the more fun league? A 4-on-4 league would be more fun for the players and more fun for the fans. Who wouldn't want to invest in a better game with better highlights?

ANALYST
Why are all these great players riding the bench when they could be playing in the more fun league, the more run and gun league, the higher scoring league, the league with more highlights!

HOST
It sounds like you're saying people need to think outside the box and innovate.

ANALYST
Absolutely, combine better basketball with social media, reality TV, and scripted TV and you can let players who want to play, who love to play, run and gun!

COMMENTATOR
Why isn't there another basketball league? How come the NFL has been competed with over and over, yet it's pretty much a game only America plays. Meanwhile, basketball is an international game and hardly anybody tries to innovate and compete. Where are the basketball entrepreneurs?

ANALYST
We need basketball entrepreneurs! I can name a bunch of organizations that have taken on the NFL. And, some of them have done so very successfully. Here's a list:

  • The American Football League
  • Arena Football
  • The AAF
  • The XFL
  • The All-America Football Conference
  • The American Football League
  • The USFL (United States Football League)
  • The WFL (World Football League)

COMMENTATOR
It would be much easier to start a new basketball league, because basketball is worldwide! As you said, football is pretty much in America only. The entire world loves basketball!

Magic Johnson and the Greek Freak Need to get Together

ANALYST
Magic Johnson and the Greek Freak (Giannis Antetokounmpo) need to get together, because Magic Johnson is an entrepreneur. Both Magic and Giannis are superstar basketball players. Magic changed the Los Angeles Lakers with Showtime, and the Greek Freak has changed the Milwaukee Bucks for the better, because Fear the Deer!

But the most important quality either Magic or Giannis has is being an entrepreneur. You make way more money doing business than being a basketball player.

These two superstar basketball players need to bust the monopoly, the 5-on-5 monopoly. Magic Johnson with a player like the Greek Freak could do it. Any entrepreneur like Magic Johnson and virtually any other NBA player could break the monopoly. Why? Because 4-on-4 full court is better than 5-on-5 full court with today's players.

HOST
Come on, nobody understands what you're talking about.

COMMENTATOR
No, I get it. What if these two 4-player teams played each other?

  1. LeBron James
  2. Kevin Durant
  3. James Harden
  4. Chris Paul

Playing against:

  1. Giannis Antetokounmpo - The Greek Freak
  2. Anthony Davis
  3. Kawhi Leonard
  4. Paul George

ANALYST
It gives me chills just to think about it! And it's all about the math.

ANNOUNCER
Oh no, don't bring math into it.

COMMENTATOR
He's got to! Where have you been? This is the age of Sabermetrics and analytics.

ANALYST
Look it's not really about the math! It's about fast break basketball! And the math tells us how to create fast break basketball. I'm tired of watching NBA players stand around. I want non-stop fast break basketball!

COMMENTATOR
I can't disagree with that.

HOST
How?

ANALYST
All we have to do is make the two point shot more valuable by making players more likely to make the two-point shot. The way to do that is to remove two players from the court. That removes a whole lot of defense! Play 4-on-4 full court instead of 5-on-5 full court.

Right now, NBA players make about 50% of their 2-point shots. That means if you shoot 100 shots, you make 50, and that's 100 points.

And right now, NBA players make about 35% of their three point shots. That means if you shoot 100 shots, you make 35, and that is 105 points.

COMMENTATOR
I get it. It's better to shoot 3-point shots. That's why NBA players stand around a lot and pass around the perimeter a lot. That's why today's game is so boring. There's no magic! There's no Phi Slama Jama™ like the University of Houston used to have.

ANALYST
Exactly. but what if you start playing 4-on-4 instead of 5-on-5? Who is going to stop the Greek Freak then? With only eight players on the floor, the driving lanes will be open, the Greek Freak will be able to fast break all the time. The same will be true for every other biggest, tallest, fastest, basketball player with great endurance. They will be able to run non-stop, because there will be room to run.

COMMENTATOR
And more fast breaks means more dunks. It means more running and gunning! it means more highlights. It means more great passes. It means basketball played the way we love basketball the most.

ANALYST
Remember, right now NBA players only make about 50% of their 2-point shots. With two players removed, playing 4-on-4 full court instead of 5-on-5 full court, we can expect a lot more fast breaks and dunks. We can expect the two-point shot percentage to go up nearer 70%. That means if you shoot 100 shots, you make 70 shots, You score 140 points a game! That's the wide open basketball that people really love. And, you still have the three point shot!

4-on-4 Beats 5-on-5!

NBA Players Need to Quit Complaining about Fouls and Lack of Ownership!

ANNOUNCER
The Houston Rockets have been complaining that they are not getting foul calls from the referees.

COMMENTATOR
Yet, James Harden jumps forward when he shoots, initiates contact, and wants the defender to be called for the foul. It's smart basketball, but not necessarily fair or fun basketball. And, Chris Paul is no shrinking violet about making contact! They are both superstar athletes and they would benefit from more wide open basketball with less contact. And, they should be both be owners.

ANALYST
Yes, millionaire NBA players complain about fouls. They also complain that they don't get to be coaches, don't get to be managers, and don't get to be owners of the teams. The millionaires complain about the billionaires that own the majority of everything. Yet, the players willingly participate in the monopoly instead of trying to change it. They fail to innovate.

COMMENTATOR
So we've got two problems. first, basketball is boring. Not enough running, gunning, and dunking. And, second, players can't become owners.

ANALYST
Yes two problems! And by fixing one you can fix the other. We have lost the essential beauty of professional basketball. In the games today, they run 3-point line to 3-point line. It’s become perimeter ball.

ANNOUNCER
What can we do?

COMMENTATOR
We can fix play 4-on-4 full court. We can bring back running full court instead of just three-point line to three-point line.

It's math. We make it more likely to make two point baskets! Play 4-on-4 full court instead of 5-on-5 full court.

If you make 33% of your 3-point shots and you shoot 100 shots that means you make 33 baskets, times 3 points, equals 99 points. This is today’s game.

If you make 45% of your two-point shots and you shoot 100 shots that means you make 45 baskets, times 2 points, equals 90 points. This is also today’s game.

So, it's better to shoot three pointers in 5-on-5 games. But, basketball would be much more exciting if it was all about running and dunking!

What if these two 4-player teams played each other?

  1. LeBron James
  2. Kevin Durant
  3. James Harden
  4. Chris Paul

Playing against:

  1. Giannis Antetokounmpo - The Greek Freak
  2. Anthony Davis
  3. Kawhi Leonard
  4. Paul George

COMMENTATOR
That game should be 140 - 139! There should be 40 dunks! And, guess which team I pick to win?

ANNOUNCER
Who would win?

ANALYST
Let’s play the game! Playing 4-on-4 full court instead of 5-on-5 full court makes sense! It would make room for wide open basketball! Like our commentator said, running, gunning, and dunking!

With 4-on-4 player should make 60% - 70% of their two-point shots, and if you shoot 100 shots, that means you make 60 - 70 baskets, times 2 points each equals 120 - 140 points. Plus you still got three-pointers! It would be like the former ABA with high scoring games! Dr. J time again!

Let’s face it. It's better to run and gun! It's better to fast break! It's better to go for dunks! That’s the kind of basketball that gives me chills. That’s that kind of basketball that is played by the biggest, tallest, fastest players. The true superstars!

Things can change. A couple of NBA players need to start reality TV shows, scripted TV shows, games, tournaments, a league, or leagues, all about playing 4-on-4 full court. They need to become owners. This is the script and treatment to start making basketball fun again. It's math!

Copyright © 2019 Bradley R. Hennenfent, M.D. All rights reserved. This is an ongoing treatment and script for all media, TV shows, video, etc., incorporating 4-on-4 full court, 3-on-3 full court, 2-on-2 full court, and 1-on-1 full court basketball.

Michael Jordan, Julius Erving, Clyde Drexler, and Vince Carter

ANNOUNCER

Think of the tallest, fastest, greatest basketball players!

COMMENTATOR

Michael Jordan, Julius Erving, Clyde Drexler, and Vince Carter were four of the greatest fast break basketball players of all time! They could all finish with fantastic dunks. They were outstanding at running and gunning! They were, and are, a fearsome foursome!

ANNOUNCER

You're talking about Air Jordan, Dr. J, Phi Slama Jama™, and Vinsanity!

ANALYST

I used to love basketball, but I hate it now. Mostly, I try to watch the last two minutes of today's NBA, or of the NCAA games. In the games today, they mostly run 3-point line to 3-point line. They mostly pass the ball around the perimeter. Boring! So so boring! I remember when players used to fly!

ANNOUNCER

What can we do?

ANALYST/COMMENTATOR

We can fix basketball! We can fix basketball by playing 4-on-4 full court. We can bring back the non-stop running and excitement that we all used to enjoy. We can bring back the highlights!

The answer is math. It's analytics. What do we love? Fast break basketball. What would bring it back? Answer: Making it more likely to make two point baskets! We can do that by playing 4-on-4 full court instead of 5-on-5 full court.

Right now the NBA is sort of like this: If you make 35% of your 3-point shots, and you shoot 100 shots, that means you make 35 baskets, times 3 points, equals 105 points.

If you make 50% of your two-point shots, and you shoot 100 shots, that means you make 50 baskets, times 2 points, equals 100 points.

SO, mathematically, it's better to shoot three pointers. But, basketball would be much more exciting if it was better to dunk!

ANNOUNCER

Who would be your dream team for that historical fearsome foursome to play against?

COMMENTATOR

That's easy, it would be LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Kawhi Leonard.

ANNOUNCER

You're talking about King James, KD, the Greek Freak, and The Klaw.

COMMENTATOR

That's right! Imagine those two sets of four player teams going against each other full court! In their prime!

ANNOUNCER

But it seems strange. Why remove the two players? Why go from five-on-five to 4-on-4?

COMMENTATOR

Removing two players and playing 4-on-4 full court instead of 5-on-5 full court makes tremendous sense. Many of today's players are nearly 7-ft tall and have 7 ft wingspans. These players are essentially taking up 38 square feet of space each when they play defense. By removing two such players you are freeing up 76 square feet of space! That's a lot of space! That makes room for wide open basketball!

Suddenly, passing lanes will be open. Driving Lanes will be open for dunks. Players will make a higher percentage of two point shots!

If you make 60% of your two-point shots, and you shoot 100 shots, that means you make 60 baskets, times 2 points, equals 120 points!

Suddenly, it's way better to run and gun again! It's way better to fast break again! It's way better to go for dunks!

Fast break basketball is the kind of basketball we all used to love. It's the basketball that thrilled us. It's what we dreamed about. It's Showtime! Let's bring the chills back by playing 4-on-4 full court.

Today's basketball players all have the handles, and all have the speed, to play 4-on-4 full court. We wouldn't have to wait for the last few minutes of games for them to get exciting. The entire game would be exciting from start to finish.

ANNOUNCER

I'm with you. bring back players playing like Clyde "The Glide" Drexler and Phi Slama Jama™ as the University of Houston used to do (they own the trademark). Russell Westbrook comes to mind!

Cloning Russell Westbrook!

ANNOUNCER
No one is more exciting than Russell Westbrook when he's running because Russell Westbrook goes full speed full court.

COMMENTATOR
Agreed, when he has room, Russell Westbrook is one of the most exciting players in the NBA. When Russell has room to fly, he can really fly.

ANNOUNCER
The skills of today's professional basketball players are off the charts.

COMMENTATOR
Absolutely! Did you see the Portland trail blazers in the NBA playoffs! The players coming off the bench for Portland have great run and gun skills! They would be fantastic in any other setting.

ANNOUNCER
What setting would that be?

COMMENTATOR
We need a new basketball league. We need new basketball shows. We need new basketball tournaments. We need to take the guys sitting on the bench from all these professional teams and let them start all the time, and play non-stop, four-on-four full court. I would much rather see great athletes running and gunning full court, four-on-four, than playing the slow five-on-five, 3-point line to 3-point line, game we have today. There would be way more highlights! Let's open up the game by playing 4-on-4 full court, 3-on-3 full court, 2-on-2 full court, and 1-on-1 full court.
